Trams don’t need segregated road space, and its not necessary to get rid of cars first

The trams themselves get rid of many  cars because typically about 1/3 or the passengers will have been ex car drivers, and having the central traffic light computer clearing lights ahead of the tram via Green Wave Traffic Light Pre-emption  (not generally applicable to buses)    You can see this here in the Centre of Brussels, with the  Traffic Light Pre-emption   allowing the tram a free run, with the cars behind.  The high quality of service – punctuality, spead through traffic, not startin at hte back of somnones h ead, comfort, quiet, smooth, prestige attracts car drivers means about 30 % of passengers have left a car at home, virtually zero mode shift with buses.
